Why Fulshear Bathroom Remodeling
How Contractors Are Checked in Texas
Texas works differently from many states: Texas has no state license for general or remodeling contractors. The protection comes from two places. The trades are licensed, since plumbers are licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and electricians are licensed by TDLR. And the city screens contractors: in Fulshear, every contractor working in city limits must register with the city, pay a $200 fee, and carry at least $1,000,000 in general liability insurance naming the City of Fulshear.
So the right questions are simple. Is the company registered with the city? Who is the licensed plumber? Who pulls the permit? We answer all three in writing before you sign.

Local Know-How
Remodeling in a Young City
Fulshear grew fast, from about 700 residents in 2008 to an estimated 64,630 in 2025, so the housing here is overwhelmingly new construction in master-planned communities. That changes what a bathroom remodel usually means. The plumbing is rarely the problem; the finishes are. Stock fiberglass showers, framed mirrors, single-height vanities, and garden tubs nobody uses are typical reasons to remodel.
Newer houses still need permits for the work that matters. The city states that anyone who alters, repairs, or replaces a plumbing, electrical, gas, or mechanical system must get a permit first, and the permit rule applies both inside city limits and in the ETJ. Finish work is different: tiling, painting, cabinets, countertops, and similar finish work can be exempt when nothing behind the wall changes. We tell you which side of that line your project is on.
Many homes in Cross Creek Ranch, Jordan Ranch, and Fulbrook on Fulshear Creek are recent enough that some items may still be under a builder warranty. We ask about that at the estimate so a remodel does not void coverage you want to keep.

Common Questions
Bathroom Remodeling Questions
Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom in Fulshear?
If plumbing, electrical, gas, or mechanical work changes, yes. The city requires a permit before anyone alters those systems, and the permit rule applies both inside city limits and in the ETJ. Pure finish work such as tiling, painting, cabinets, countertops, and similar finish work is generally exempt. We file through the city’s online GovWell permit portal when a permit applies.
Is there a state license for bathroom remodelers in Texas?
No. Texas has no state license for general or remodeling contractors. Instead, check the trades and the city: plumbers are licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, and in Fulshear every contractor working in city limits must register with the city, pay a $200 fee, and carry at least $1,000,000 in general liability insurance naming the City of Fulshear. The city can also tell you whether a company has registered and worked there before.
What happens if work is done without a permit?
The city lists a $350 fine for work done without a permit, and additional fees can apply. Unpermitted plumbing or electrical work can also come up when you sell. It is easier to file up front, and we handle it for you.
My house is only a few years old. Is a remodel worth it?
Often, yes. Newer homes here were built with standard builder finishes, and upgrading the primary bath is one of the most common changes owners make. With the plumbing in good shape, more of the budget goes into what you see and use every day.
